Robert Yalden is the inaugural holder of the Stephen Sigurdson Professorship in Corporate Law and Finance at the Faculty of Law of Queen’s University. Prior to joining the Faculty in 2018, Robert was a senior partner with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, one of Canada’s leading business law firms.

Robert served as a member of Osler's Executive Committee, as Co-Chair of Osler’s National Mergers and Acquisitions Group for over a decade and as a founding partner of Osler’s Montreal office, where he was head of its Corporate Department. He is a member of several for profit and not for profit Boards, is a former Chair of the Board of Equitas, and has served on a range of Board Committees, including Finance, Conduct Review, Communications and Development, and Equity and Inclusion Committees.

Robert has made a lifelong commitment to legal education that has taken many guises - as an Adjunct Professor with McGill Law for over 20 years and now as a member of the Faculty at Queen’s Law, as the co-author of leading textbooks in business law, and in his extensive writings for legal and business publications.  He also serves as Co-Editor in Chief of the Canadian Business Law Journal, Canada’s preeminent business law journal.

Repeatedly recognized as one of Canada’s leading business lawyers during his 25 years in practice, Robert has worked closely with senior management teams and boards of directors in shaping some of Canada’s most innovative and ground-breaking transactions.
